Webshop integration: what it is and what you can connect

Your webshop only works well with marketplaces, suppliers and your warehouse when data moves back and forth by itself. Here is how that works and how to choose.

Short answer

A webshop integration is an automatic link between your online store and another system, such as a marketplace, supplier, stock system, POS or accounting package. Products, stock, prices and orders are exchanged without retyping. You set it up with a plugin, an integration platform or a custom API connection. StoreLinkr is an integration platform.

What can you connect to your webshop?

Almost anything you share products, stock or orders with. In practice there are six kinds. Which ones you need depends on how you sell. If your main goal is listing on marketplaces, read more on the page about connecting your webshop or the one about a marketplace integrator.

Plugin, integration platform or custom API?

There are three routes, and they do not exclude each other.

Direct plugin

One module connects your webshop to one system, for example a single marketplace. It is quick to set up and cheap as long as you need only one connection. Every extra connection is another plugin with its own rules, upkeep and errors.

Integration platform

One platform sits between your webshop and all other systems. You connect your webshop once and add channels afterwards. Data is translated in one place, so stock and prices come from the same source everywhere. You pay for the platform and depend on what it offers.

Custom API connection

A developer builds the link to measure. That fits when you have an unusual process or a system nobody supports. Expect build costs, maintenance with every API change and someone to fix failures.

Rule of thumb: two or more channels, or a supplier that needs orders sent back? An integration platform usually wins. One simple connection? A plugin is enough.

What to check when choosing

Ask every provider this, including us.

  • Direction of data. Does it only go from the webshop to the channel, or do orders and tracking codes come back too? For orders you need both directions.
  • Frequency. How often is stock updated? A connection that runs once a day lets you oversell. Also read how to process marketplace orders automatically.
  • Mapping. Categories, attributes, VAT codes and shipping methods are named differently everywhere. See who translates them and how much manual work remains.
  • Order flow back. Check whether orders land in your webshop, warehouse or at the supplier, and whether the status returns.
  • Price model. Per connection, per order or a fixed amount? At StoreLinkr the price depends on your monthly order volume, see the pricing.
  • Support. Who fixes a failed export, and how fast do you notice it yourself?

What StoreLinkr does and does not do

StoreLinkr is an integration platform. You connect your webshop (WooCommerce, Shopify or SitePack) and add marketplaces, suppliers, warehouse systems and ad feeds. Products, stock and prices go to the channels; orders come in and move on to where they are processed.

What it cannot do: systems that are not in the integration overview. Odoo, Business Central, Shopware and Magento are not part of it. If your system is missing, ask first whether it can be done before assuming it.

Every system has its own limits. What an integration passes on is stated on that system's page and also depends on what the other system allows.

Frequently asked questions

An automatic link between your online store and another system, such as a marketplace, supplier, POS or accounting package. Data such as stock, prices and orders is exchanged by itself.

You need a seller account at the marketplace and an integration that exchanges your offers, stock and orders. In StoreLinkr you connect your webshop, pick the marketplace and authorise the connection.

A plugin connects your webshop to one system. An integration platform sits between your webshop and several systems, so stock and prices come from one source.

It differs per provider: per connection, per order or a fixed fee. At StoreLinkr the amount depends on your monthly order volume. Current amounts are on the pricing page.

Yes. Use a shop platform that sits inside your website, such as WooCommerce for WordPress, or a separate platform. You then connect that platform to marketplaces and suppliers.
